CORE Graduate Named Outstanding Resident of the Year
Mann receives 2007 Merck Outstanding Resident of the Year from AOF
ATHENS, Ohio — Bridgeport, W.Va., native Josalyn M. Mann, D.O., a former Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) resident, was recently named one of four recipients of the 2007 Merck Outstanding Resident of the Year award by the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF).
“I was thrilled for both Dr. Mann and our residency program,” said William Burke, D.O., director of the Doctors Hospital Family Practice Residency. “All of us know how much of her heart and soul Josalyn put into the program here at Doctors Hospital, and it was reassuring to see that others recognized her value, not only to our program, but to the osteopathic profession as well.
“Josalyn demonstrated all of the characteristics of a model resident wrapped up in one individual — her concern for her patients’ well being, her attention to detail, her tremendous leadership and effective communication skills and her osteopathic focus. Her willingness to spend as much time as needed to take care of her work and personal responsibilities, yet maintain a healthy balance, and her interest in volunteerism are a testament to her character and professionalism.”
Mann is the seventh resident from the Doctors Hospital program to win the award in the past 10 years. The Merck Outstanding Resident of the Year Award recognizes and honors outstanding osteopathic residents who go above and beyond their professional obligations to bring a sense of pride to the profession by exhibiting the exemplary characteristics of an osteopathic physician. The recipient of this award must display the following during his or her residency:
Mann received her award and a monetary prize of $5,000 at the AOF Honors Ceremony, which was held in conjunction with the American Osteopathic Association Annual Convention and Scientific Seminar in San Diego, Calif., on September 30.
Mann currently practices family medicine in Bridgeport. She is a 2007 graduate of the Doctors Hospital Family Practice Residency, where she acted as chief resident. She is a graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Doctors Hospital is a member of the CORE system.
Mann is also the recipient of the 2007 Ohio State Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physician’s Resident of the Year Award. An academic paper entitled “The Evaluation and Management of Depression in a Primary Care Setting,” co-authored by Mann and Kristin Witte, D.O., was selected as the winner of the 2007 Ohio American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine Family Practice Residency Program Advisory Committee’s Best Academic Paper Award.
