Research editor/writer brings wealth of experience to CORE

By Angelina Young

(Athens, OH - 2/12/10) Suzanne Lindsey, Ph.D., new CORE research writer/editor at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-COM), brings an impressive background in research, teaching, and grant and other writing experience to the job.  Lindsey was chosen to fill the position because of her vast experience in these key areas, said CORE Research Director Grace Brannan, Ph.D.

Lindsey is responsible for “assisting CORE residents, students and faculty with proposals and poster editing, manuscript editing and submission to peer-reviewed journals, as well as grant writing and submission,” Brannan said. The position “provides a unique service that further advances research education and clinical research within  OU-COM and the CORE,” Brannan said.

Lindsey aims to increase grant funding by tapping into her past experience in writing successful grant applications as a principal investigator to fund her own research. “Once you know the basics of grant writing and obtaining funding, it is easier to translate that into other areas,” she said. She is a National Institute of Health Training Grant awardee, and has been a successful applicant of many other grants.

Prior to joining the CORE, Lindsey was the founding scientist and vice president of a start up company in Seattle. She joined the new company after serving as an associate professor at Washington State University, which followed an earlier position in the in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Texas Tech University. She is also a registered patent agent.

Lindsey has served as a grant reviewer for the National Science Foundation and several private foundations. She has peer-reviewed manuscripts for several journals, including Biology of Reproduction, Molecular Human Reproduction and the American Association for Cancer Research journals, and was an editorial advisor for Biochemistry Journal.

Throughout her career, Lindsey published numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers on cell-specific gene expression and the function of the expressed proteins. Her research articles have appeared in such journals such as the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Genomics, Developmental Biology, Biology of Reproduction, Journal of Assisted Reproduction & Genetics, Molecular Human Reproduction, In Vitro Cellular & Development Biology, Journal of Andrology, GENE, Experimental Cell Research, Nucleic Acids Research, Oncology Reports, Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, and American Journal of Pathology.

After receiving her doctorate in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology from the Oregon Health and Science University, Lindsey completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Oregon Primate Research Center, also near Portland.
