GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION NEWS

OMSIII Students – Make your application stand out in the crowd

If you’re applying to a highly competitive specialty residency, often you’ll find yourself competing against dozens of other qualified candidates so it can be difficult to stand out in the pack of applicants.

In addition to three letters of recommendation and board score, you will need a well-written personal statement. This is your best chance to personalize your qualifications and highlight yourself above other applicants. Don’t just reiterate what is on your application. Tell a compelling story about why you went into medicine or why you plan to study a specific field. Your statement needs to be more than, “I wanted to be a doctor ever since I was little.”

If you would like to discuss your personal statement, call Pam Royston, Administrative Director Graduate Medical Education at 740-597-1377, or Royston@oucom.ohiou.edu.
