Mission Statement

The OU-HCOM CORE Family Practice Residency Program Advisory Committee (FP RPAC) is an alliance of community oriented osteopathic family practitioners, residency directors, educators, and administrators.  We collaborate to preserve and enhance the integrity of osteopathic family practice residency training by maintaining standards of excellence, developing strategies, sharing resources, and promoting quality that results in the establishment of structured academic programs that will be competitive in evolving managed health care environments.

The purpose of the Family Practice Residency Program Advisory Committee is to plan, develop, and implement programs to meet and exceed the standards of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) and the requirements of the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice (AOBFP).  This will be accomplished through a consortium approach involving collaboration, central support staff, standards curricula, continuous evaluation, and the Ohio University affiliation.  The philosophy governing the Family Practice Residency Program Advisory Committee embodies pursuit of excellence, commitment of faculty to education, the importance of role models, respect for residents, and the conviction that superior educational programs are developed and maintained through sustained effort by all involved parties.

As a consortium we share common goals to lead, direct, mentor, promote, and recruit for our distinctive residency programs.  This includes the pursuit of excellence in residency training, the promotion of generalism and family practice, the acquisition of external sources of financial support, and the empowerment of osteopathic family practice in Ohio.

Our CORE values include commitments to:

  • Developing competitive residency programs in osteopathic family practice;
  • Providing patients in our community with quality primary care services;
  • Establishing effective and innovative academic, clinical, and research programs in family practice;
  • Promoting faculty development, curriculum development, and scholarly activity;
  • Maintaining an appropriate balance among education, service, and research;
  • Promoting a collegial relationship between residents, faculty, and other specialists;
  • Integrate basic science and osteopathic principles and practices throughout the continuum of physician training; and
  • Develop flexible, cost-effective ambulatory training models for an unpredictable health care environment with emphasis in managed care.

We are accountable to Ohio University, its Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP), hospitals, directors of medical education, students, interns, residents, patients, colleagues, and the general public of the State of Ohio.  We will preserve and strengthen osteopathic family practice residencies by providing excellence in education, faculty development, research, community service, and patient care.
