Mission Statement

The OU-HCOM CORE Internal Medicine Residency Program Advisory Committee (IM RPAC) is a statewide alliance of University affiliated, community based osteopathic internists, program directors, educators, and administrators dedicated to the training of primary care and specialty physicians.  As a group, we collaborate to preserve and protect the identify and integrity of osteopathic internal medicine residences by maintaining standards of excellence, developing  educational strategies, sharing resources, promoting quality, and providing systems of education that emphasize a patient centered, holistic approach.

The purpose of the Internal Medicine Residency Program Advisory Committee is to plan, organize, and implement programs to meet and exceed the standards of the American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI), the requirements of the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM), and to serve as a sounding board and liaison for students, interns and residents pursuing careers in Internal Medicine.  We accomplish our purpose and goals through a centralized consortium approach involving collaboration, innovation, standardized curricula, continuous evaluation, and through affiliation with Ohio University.  The philosophy governing the Internal Medicine Residency Program Advisory Committee embodies pursuit of excellence, commitment of faculty to education, the importance of role models, respect for residents and colleagues, and the conviction that superior educational programs are developed and maintained only through sustained effort by all involved parties.

As a consortium we share common goals to lead, direct, promote and recruit for our distinctive residency programs.  We are mentors committed to the pursuit of excellence in residency training, the development of a primary care work force, the acquisition of external sources of financial support, and the establishment of a university like environment in our teaching centers.

Our CORE values include commitments to:

  • Developing competitive residency programs in internal medicine;
  • Promoting life-long, independent learning;
  • Promoting effective and innovative academic, clinical and research programs in Internal Medicine;
  • Promoting faculty development, curricular development, and scholarly activity;
  • Maintaining an appropriate balance between education, service, and research;
  • Promoting a collegial relationship between residents, faculty, and other specialists;
  • Integrating osteopathic principles and practices and basic sciences throughout the continuum of physician training; and
  • Developing flexible, cost effective, ambulatory training models for an evolving health care environment with an emphasis on managed care.

We are accountable to Ohio University, its Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, the American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI), hospitals, directors of medical education, students, interns, residents, patients, colleagues, and the general public of the State of Ohio.  We will preserve and strengthen osteopathic Internal Medicine residences by promoting loyalty and advocacy for osteopathic ideals and by providing excellence in education, faculty development, research, community service, and patient care.
