Mission Statement

The OU-HCOM CORE Obstetrics/Gynecology Residency Program Advisory Committee (OB/GYN RPAC) is a statewide alliance of university-affiliated, community-based osteopathic obstetricians and gynecologists, program directors, educators, and administrators dedicated to the education and training of osteopathic obstetricians and gynecologists.  As a group, we collaborate to preserve and protect the identity of osteopathic obstetric/gynecology (OB/GYN) residencies by maintaining standards of excellence, developing educational strategies, sharing resources, and promoting quality by providing systems of education that will be competitive in evolving managed health care environments, and by emphasizing a cost-effective, patient-centered, holistic approach.

The purpose of the Obstetrics/Gynecology Residency program Advisory Committee is to plan, organize, implement, and lead programs to meet and exceed the standards of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologies (ACOOG), the requirements of the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AOBOG), and to serve as educators for students, interns, and residents pursuing careers in obstetrics/gynecology and primary care.  We accomplish our purpose and goals through a consortium approach involving collaboration, innovation, sharing of resources, standardized curricula, continuous evaluation, and affiliation with Ohio University.  The philosophy governing the Obstetrics/Gynecology Residency Program Advisory Committee embodies the pursuit of excellence, commitment of faculty to education, importance of role models and mentors, respect for residents and colleagues, compassionate patient care, and the conviction that quality educational programs are developed and maintained only through sustained effort by all involved.

As a consortium, we share common goals to lead, direct, promote, and recruit for our distinctive residency programs.  We are committed to the pursuit of excellence in obstetrics and gynecology, the development of a primary care work force, integration of osteopathic principles and practices, the acquisition of external sources of financial support, and the establishment of an academic environment in our teaching centers.

Our CORE values include commitments to:

• Developing competitive residency programs in obstetrics and gynecology;
• Integrating osteopathic principles and practices and basic sciences throughout the continuum of physician training;
• Establishing effective and innovative academic, clinical, and research programs in obstetrics and gynecology;
• Promoting life-long independent learning;
• Promoting faculty development, curricular development, and scholarly activity;
• Maintaining an appropriate balance among education, service, and research;
• Promoting diversity in our students, residents, and faculty;
• Providing patients in our communities with quality health care;
• Providing quality health services to indigent, underserved, and other vulnerable populations;
• Developing flexible, cost effective, ambulatory training models for an evolving health care environment with an emphasis on managed care;
• Maintaining ethical standards in all that we do.

We are accountable to Ohio University, its Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOOG), the consortium, hospitals, directors of medical education, students, interns, residents, patients, colleagues, and the general public of the State of Ohio.  We will preserve and strengthen the osteopathic profession by promoting unity, visibility, and loyalty, advocacy for osteopathic ideals, and provide excellence in education, faculty development, research, community service, and patient care.
