Students receive one-on-one with the attendings about 80 percent of the time.  Very friendly environment. Strong didactics.  Near metropolitan areas with a sense of community.

Food is free.

Are pagers provided to students?
Yes.

Are lockers available for students to use?
Yes

What is the trauma level of your emergency department? If your emergency department is not a level-I trauma center, will students have an opportunity to rotate at a level-I trauma center?
Level III. Level I available if they wish to travel to Akron or Cleveland.

What is the on-call policy for medical students?
Two weekends a month.

Is there 24-hour access to the library and internet resources?
Yes.

Is charting done electronically?
Not at this time.

How far is a major metropolitan airport?
Akron/Canton Airport is 20 minutes from DHSC.
Cleveland International is about 1-1/4 hour from Massillon.

Is the hospital located near an expressway?
Yes; about 15 to 20 minutes away.

Information of Local Interest
Kent State University-Stark Campus; Stark State College of Technology, Walsh University and Malone College are within a 30 minute drive from the hospital.

Apartments usually run about $500 per month, depending on where you live.

Area schools are highly regarded.  The people of Massillon are enthusiastic supporters of their community – big football town. 

Massillon and the surrounding communities provide many activities: Shopping, dining, music, art shows, Yankee Peddler Craft Show, theater shows, bike trails.  There are numerous community parks available to residents which include walking tracks and a park for dogs.   A short drive to Cleveland will provide professional sports including MLB, NFL, and the NBA.  Cleveland also offers fine dining, arts and theater.  Akron/Canton airport is a 15-20 minute drive from the hospital and Cleveland Hopkins International airport is 1 ¼ hour drive north.

The Site
Affinity Medical Center, Doctors Campus is a full service, acute care, unique community hospital with many features normally found in more tertiary-type facilities. Affinity Medical Center’s corporate ownership changed in April 2007.  The corporation of Triad Hospitals was bought by Community Health Systems.  With accruing Triad, this makes Community Health Systems the largest healthcare organization in the world, owning over 130 hospitals across the nation.  Community Health Systems is located in Brentwood , TN.  AMC will be going to a 1 campus model.  The details and timeframe will be announced as more information becomes available.
